ImageJennifer Hutter, LNC, specializes in medical device technology research, coding and coverage. With a long and varied career as a nurse, Jennifer's clinical experience has included home health, pediatrics, medical-surgical, geriatrics and the operating room fields of nursing. Previously, Ms Hutter was the Manager of the SADMERC HCPCS Department for three years. While in that position, she facilitated the creation of additions, revisions, and deletions to the permanent national alpha-numeric codes as a member of the CMS HCPCS workgroup and the HCPCS National Panel. As a participant of these panels, Ms. Hutter performed research on many types of medical devices and new technology, which has led to a wealth of experience with the coding process and durable medical equipment. Ms. Hutter has successfully developed new coding strategies with clients, resulting in coding additions and revisions to the HCPCS coding system.

She has testified in Administrative Law Judge hearings for the Medicare system and presented at ALJ/Hearings conferences, educating hearings officers on coding and coverage. Prior to SADMERC, she was the HCPCS Coordinator and a claims examiner (DME and Orthotic) for the Region C DMERC. With this in-depth Medicare experience, she is well versed in the DMERC coverage and reimbursement policies. Ms. Hutter writes clinical applications and reviews supporting documentation for medical technologies in order to assist clients in making stronger cases for both efficacy and reimbursement. As a clinical nurse, she is able to analyze new products and technology as they relate to existing coverage or potential coverage issues. She is a member of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC) and the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation (WBL).
